How did she rise to the top? By winning American Idol in 2005. This can be somewhat surprising since most Idol winners, don't end up having a lasting career. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are of the few who do. Other past winning contestants such as Ruban, and runner up Clay Aiken haven't been heard about in years.
Carrie Underwood was automatically a favorite on the show and was safe every single week.
After her win, she released her debut album titled Some Hearts which held 3 hit singles including an all-time favorite "Before He Cheats".
In 2007 she released her second album, Carnival Ride, and then again in 2009 released her third album Play On.
Throughout these records she has had popular hit singles such as "His Last Name", a song about going to the bar and drinking a little too much and accidentally getting married, "Undo It", a song about a breakup and wanting to undo everything that ever happened, a very empowering song for women who have been treated badly in a relationship, and "Cowboy Casanova", warning girls to stay away from those guys you just can't resist. A pattern of man-bashing tunes, that become extremely popular due to the fact that broken hearts are not uncommon.
But she doesn't just sing about bad guys and breakups. She has heartfelt songs such as "Jesus Take the Wheel" which tells the story of a single mom who almost gets into a fatal car accident and finds herself praying to Jesus to help her get to where she needs to be.
Carrie has won many awards including Grammies, American Country Music awards and she is even in the Guiness World Book of Records for having the most number one songs on the Billboard Hot Country songs between 1991 and 2012 (she has 11 and is tied with Reba McEntire).
It is clear to see that Carrie Underwoods career has taken off full steam ahead, and it doesn't look like it's slowing down anytime soon. She just released her newest single from her upcoming album Blown Away. The song is titled "Good Girl" and once again, is a song about staying away from the wrong man. Some do not like how her vocal style has gone from country to more so country/pop, but take a listen for yourself.
Have you also heard the duet "Remind Me" with Brad Paisley? It is such a good song and strays away from her typical "stay away from the wrong man" mentality. I like how her songs are just as contagious whether they are fast or slow paced.
ReplyDeleteI actually just wrote a post about a new show called Smash staring Katharine McPhee who, along with Carrie Underwood, is one of the only American Idol winners to make something of themselves after the show ended!
