INTRODUCTION!
This Calgary local band are some great friends of mine. With the drumming talents of Josh Hunter, guitar by Barry Mason, bass guitar from crazy kid Kyle Tenove, and the vocal stylings of Zackariah Rathwell, together they are Zackariah and the Prophets.
They place themeselves in a genre described as "funky, dance, blues rock" which is obviously a mix of everything. Being a fan, and having seen them perform I can attest to the fact that it is most definitely funky and absolutely makes me want to get up and dance.
Being a local band is a challenge for obvious reasons. Your fan base starts as just your family and friends and you have to try and continue to spread the word and build that base. This can be achieved mostly by word of mouth. Social Networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace do help in spreading the name, currently the band has 136 likes on Facebook and hopefully that will keep growing as they put on more shows and more and more people hear about them.
They have had gigs at local venues such as Ironwood in downtown Calgary, and The Hideout. They played a great show on this past New Years Eve at Denim Suburban Lounge in Canyon Meadows, and Kyles finger had a blister that burst, evidence is down below. Apparently that's the life of being a bass player....I say no thanks, I think I'll stick to watching.

HISTORY
These 4 talented aspiring musicians met in highschool while attending Bishop Carroll Senior High. Josh and Kyle became friends in grade ten, and a year later Zack and Barry came into the picture, being friends all throughout their childhood. The story of how they all began to hang out together is a little vague but one of the members recalls that Kyle met Zack and Barry in a drama class and discovered that they all played instruments and shared a love of music. It was suggested that they all "jam" together, and it just happened to work out well for them and thus Zackariah and the Prophets were born.
NOW
Currently the band has taken a brief break from performing shows. They all have alternative jobs, living the lives of young struggling musicians. However, they have also been working on recording some of their music in hopes of soon releasing and EP for their fans. Though they have been too busy to play any recent gigs, they just announced that they will be playing at Dickens Pub in Calgary opening for a band called Blackberry Wood on March 29th at 8:00pm. I encourage everyone to go check them out! You will not be disappointed!
Here is a sneak peak at one of the bands jam sessions that they posted on YouTube of one of their very own songs, "Cat Eyes".
