History of Hiphop

Hip-hop originated during the 1960's in the black ghetto's of south Bronx, New York. What started as a DJ giving "shout outs" over elements of reggae music transformed into not only a prevalent and persistent form of music, but a culture of its own. One of the DJ's considered to be one of the founding fathers of hip-hop was DJ Kool Herc, a Jamaican renowned for reciting improvised rhymes over dub versions of reggae and other popular music of the time. This form of DJing became immensely popular and as it evolved the MC was born, the MC had no control over the music and their sole job was to recite lyrics, which is basically the form of hip-hop we have at present.
